CLOTHES SHOPPING IN CHINA

SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES IN CHINA

  1. Decide which garment you will buy.
  2. Check the internet for a design/pattern.
  3. Cull the 269 designs to 10 - this may take quite a long, long time (allow 10 days).
  4. Chat to the European experts in Suzhou who will advise you the best place/s to make your purchase.
  5. Discover that a personal TAILOR in Old Suzhou will provide the best deal.
  6. On acquiring Tailor's address, hire a taxi to deliver you to the premises.
  7. On arrival at the Tailor's be awe struck by the variety of materials, designs, and colours.
  8. Check with staff on your internet designs and discover that the Tailor may do all 10!
  9. Eventually decide on ONE and be fitted with the "template" off the rack.
10. Be accurately measured for the garment and see the assistant correctly notes these measurements.
11. Check these written notations - they, of course, are written in Chinese.
12. Make sure your partner pays the deposit, and collect the receipt with material samples.
13. Allow 5 days for collection and for remaining payment.
14. Discover this is the best fitted jacket/coat you have ever worn. (And at the cheapest price!!!)

Gee Grandma, there's so much to choose!
Grandma, coat hangers have many uses.
Madam Grandma, I'll calculate some measurements.
This measurement is in Chinese centimetres.
Make sure this measurement is to the nearest millimetre.
The final calculation is checked for accuracy.
Now this is the receipt with material samples, and the date for collection.

  3. Chris - mine is navy blue and Richard's is a soft brown. Very pleased with them - it's great when a special item fits well and looks good.
