RESCUE FROM THE HUANGPU RIVER.

WATER POLICE SAVE MAN FROM DROWNING

From my position aboard the M.S. SPD BANK cruise ship I witnessed a large group of spectators crowding the railings. A group of five or six security chaps amongst the crowd watched proceedings. One policeman was positioned outside the railings. Was he contemplating a jump into the Huangpu river? Aboard the police vessel one chap appeared to be fishing! As my cruise ship sailed beyond this event I became aware someone was in the river. Although I was leaving the scene I managed to witness the rescue of the person in the river. A police crewman had wrapped his arm around the "drowning" fellow. Unfortunately I was unable to watch the final piece of this drama as our cruiser sped to its berth.

Police, including officer with long pole like a fishing rod, lean
on port side of craft while spectators crowd railings on the "Bund".
Spectators gape at the action between the police craft and the "Bund".
The man is grasped by his rescuer ready to be hauled
towards the police craft.
