The Venice of the East displays gorgeous watery highways throughout the ancient city. For centuries the traveller and the merchant used the waterways to journey or transport goods. Today the canals generally transport tourists in a variety of craft. Some are propelled by enthusiastic boatmen while others are propelled by modern automotive machinery. Occasionally the swaying, drooping branches of willow caress the canals' waters. Ancient, yet beautiful bridges span the canals allowing pedestrians and the modern motor bike to cross the expanse of water.
